Business startups in the Philippines will be given a boost and perhaps even funding at the first ever Geeks on a Beach (GOAB) tech startup business conference happening this September 26 to 27 in Boracay.

GOAB is sponsored by Smart Developer Network (SmartDevNet), the developer community program of Smart Communications, Inc. and IdeaSpace Foundation, Inc., the largest privately backed incubator in the Philippines.

GOAB will provide an opportunity for the local startup communities to pitch innovative ideas and create a network of partners to lead eventually to building new products and launching businesses that will attract investors to the Philippines.

Experts from across the globe will be on hand to share their insights on startups, technology, gaming, mobile applications, and graphic design.
Smart chief wireless advisor and founder Orlando B. Vea will deliver the keynote for the event.

Other speakers include Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Louis Napoleon Casambre, Bowei Gai of World Startup Report, Jojo Flores of Plug and Play Tech Center, Ron Hose of Innovation Endeavors, Ralph Wunsch of MetroDeal, Paul Singh of 500 Startups, Stephen Jagger of PayrollHero, Frederic Levy of CashCashPinoy, Earl Valencia of IdeaSpace.ph, and Minette Navarette of Kickstart Ventures.

GOAB took its inspiration from Geeks on a Plane, a worldwide tour for startups, investors, and executives to learn about technology markets in different countries.

According to Jim Ayson, Smart senior manager for partner management and developer relations, the Philippine tech ecosystem is already taking shape with developers, startups, incubator, and investors already getting into the scene engaging in healthy idea exchanges.

“Conferences like Geeks on A Beach are great venues for this sort of interaction, and the beach setting gives it a new twist. This is going to be great for the tech scene and we think a lot of exciting collaborations are going to happen here.”

“GOAB gives an avenue for local and international entrepreneurs, businesses, and investors to learn more about the Philippine startup ecosystem,” according to Earl Martin Valencia, IdeaSpace president and Smart head for corporate development and strategy.

“Geeks on a Beach” is organized by TechTalks.ph and is also sponsored by Amazon Web Services, Airbnb, DOST, Freelancer.com, Microsoft Philippines, and Megaworld. The event is also supported by Lenovo, MetroDeal, Seed Asia, the Game Developers Association of the Philippines, and Developers Connect, among other companies.
