Samsung has just announced its new flagship smartphones the new Galaxy S6 Edge and the Galaxy S6, two smartphones that were built from ground up and obviously ditched design philosophy of previous Galaxy flagship handsets like having plastic body or cluttered user interface.
Now featuring unibody design, the Galaxy S6 edge and the Galaxy S6 are now crafted from metal and glass–and not just any kind of glass. Corning Gorilla glass 4, the strongest type, covers entirely the front and the rear of the smartphones. The Galaxy S6 edge, in particular, sports a curved glass edge, a pretty design addition that functions similar to the “edge” design of the Galaxy Note 4 edge.
Both smartphones are strikingly thin and light and feature the most sharp display. As to its user interface–that too underwent a serious change. The new user interface got simpler with a number of apps (found in previous Galaxy flagships) also taken out. The camera apps, in particular, are now easy to access. Color coding is also introduced. For example, groups of contacts can now be assigned with a particular color or the apps are color coded as well to indicate if the app is a productivity tool or a game.
Similar to what Apple introduced in iPhone 6 launch, the Galaxy 6 Edge and Galaxy 6 will feature Samsung Pay or contactless payment. The front camera (5 MP) features f1.9 lens, auto tracking and real time HDR.
“With the all new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung is offering what’s next in mobility, along with a new standard to drive the global mobile agenda,” said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics during the global launch in Barcelona Mobile World Congress.
“By listening to our customers, and learning from both our success and missteps, we continuously push forward new technologies and ideas. With a reimagined design, robust partner network and novel services, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge offer users the ultimate experience in smartphone options.”
The Galaxy S6 edge is lighter and features a curved glass design similar to the Galaxy Note Edge. Both phones are already running on the latest Android Lollipop.
The Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 will be available in 20 countries beginning April 10. It will come in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz and Green Emerald colors. There would also be choices for 16 Gb, 32 Gb, 64 Gb, and 128 Gb variants.
In the Philippines, Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 will be available mid April.
