Philippine wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) welcomes the announcement of the New iPad which features high-speed connectivity on Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, a top company official said today.
Chief Wireless Advisor Orlando B. Vea said Smart shares the excitement of iPad lovers and looks forward to serving their connectivity needs on the new device which was unveiled today.
“This is an important milestone not only for Apple but also for the entire industry. We believe that the launch of the new iPad with LTE connectivity will accelerate the introduction of more LTE devices and services, a field in which Smart has taken the lead in the country,” he said.
“Anticipating this development, Smart has taken the lead in rolling out its superfast LTE network, the true 4G network, in various points of the country such as Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Boracay, Camarines Sur and Baguio. In addition, we have also deployed the largest HSPA+ network in the country with over 1,500 sites nationwide. The New iPad also uses HSPA+,” he added.
The groundbreaking tablet will be made available in the US and in several international markets such as Singapore and Hong Kong on March 16. The Philippine launch is yet to be announced.
Given, however, that the country is one of the few in the world with a working LTE network, Vea believes that the New iPad could be made available locally sooner than expected.
“There’s a ready market for the New iPad in the Philippines and Smart is the only wireless services provider in the country with a working LTE network, ” said Vea.
Smart’s LTE is capable of delivering speeds of over 100Mbps.
