Compact is in: New Canon PowerShot G1X now fitted with large CMOS and Digic 5

The new Canon PowerShot G1X is a premium compact digital camera with a large CMOS sensor designed to capture high quality images and videos with results nearly comparable to that taken by a DSLR.

The PowerShot G1X is fitted with a superior 1.5-type 14.3 megapixel CMOS sensor technology, which is significantly bigger than the one found in its predecessor the PowerShot G12. The latter is only equipped with a 1/1.7 type 10 megapixel CCD sensor.

The new PowerShot G1X’s large 1.5-type CMOS sensor is powered by Canon’s latest DIGIC 5 image processor, which enhances the image processing speed and reduces noise to produce sharp and fine quality images even when shooting at high ISO speeds.

The DIGIC 5’s ability to handle large amounts of data also results in a powerful high speed burst mode; the camera is able to capture 4.5 shots per second at high quality. With this level of speed, the PowerShot G1X allows users to snap dynamic action shots, assured that they will finally capture the one perfect frame.

This camera also features a new precision lens that provides a 4x optical zoom with a focal length equivalent of 28mm wide up to 112mm telephoto. The versatile lens is suitable for most scenarios. As such, it takes away the hassle of changing camera lenses for different situations.

When it comes to taking dynamic photographs, users can frame their shots using the 3-inch vari-angle LCD monitor. This adjustable monitor flips out for easy viewing at almost all angles, so users will be able to frame their shots perfectly–whether a high-angle or low-angle shot.

This PowerShot is capable of recording Full HD videos in 1080 / 720 / 480 pixels in 24 fps, 30 fps and 30 fps with stereo sound respectively. With the camera’s large CMOS sensor, users can enjoy recording high quality videos even in low lighting conditions.

The new PowerShot G1X compact camera is designed for photography enthusiasts who love to photograph high quality images but do not like carrying the cumbersome DSLRs.

The camera’s sturdy metal body and streamlined design combine simplicity and functionality. The PowerShot G1X provides the users with an easy access to various controls on an ergonomically-designed body. Though compact, the camera’s body provides users with a good stable grip. There is even a front control dial for full manual control in addition to an optical viewfinder–features normally found in DSLRs.

The PowerShot G1X can also serve as an ideal back-up camera for photojournalists.

The premium PowerShot G1 X retails in the Philippines for P37,498 and comes with free 3-year warranty.
