The official launch of KakaoTalk last week also introduced its first local TV commercial that feature Korean super group BigBang alongside Filipino pop idol, Sarah Geronimo. The TVC showcased different features of KakaoTalk and the various ways Big Bang and Sarah keep in touch through free one on one voice calls, group chat, expressive animated emoticons and group voice calls.
Created by Korean mobile messaging and social platform company, Kakao Corporation, KakaoTalk is a free instant messaging application that provides not just free one on one messaging and group text messaging, but also free voice calls supporting one on one calls or group call with as many as five participants.
While it began as a mobile messaging service, the application has slowly evolved into a multi-facet platform that offers a wide range of content and services including business marketing, commerce, games, digital content, and fashion in Korea.
Building on the success in Korea, Kakao Corp has recently began to aggressively pursue global expansion of the application by driving business operations and marketing activities in regions such as Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and now, the Philippines.
In the Phillippines, Kakao Corp will first focus on helping familiarize Filipino users with KakaoTalk, while continuously listening to feedback in order to provide timely localized features that accommodate the needs of the market.
