Now here’s an app for basketball crazed Filipinos. Philippine telco giant Smart and its subsidiary Voyager Innovations Inc. have come out with PinoyHoops, a mobile app which gives users access to real-time updates and scores, game alerts and highlights, player stats, standings, and schedules, among a host of other features, straight from their mobile devices.
The launch of the mobile app coincides with the country’s hosting of the 27th FIBA Asia Championship, which at the moment has the Philippine team Gilas Pilipinas battle it out with South Korean team for entry into the finals.
As it is a mobile app, PinoyHoops will allow Filipinos abroad to also get updates of basketball games here in the Philippines.

“With the mobile app, Smart is proud to bring hardcourt basketball action and updates closer to the millions of basketball fans not only here but also abroad,” said Orlando Vea, chief wireless advisor at Smart.
Apart from access to games information, the app also allows basketball fans to connect with their favorite players and other basketball fans via a social network feature.
PinoyHoops can be downloaded for free from the Google Play online store for Android smartphone users. Soon the app will be available from the Apple App Store for iOS platform users.
The mobile app covers the two local basketball leagues—Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Content of the mobile app will be provided by Sports5, the sports arm of TV5.
